How Can I Lose Weight?
How can I lose weight is a question on the lips of many people, especially after the excess of Christmas. So it's no surprise that weight loss tops the list of New Years resolutions.
A billion dollar industry has sprung up to 'help' people to lose weight, but for most who manage to shed the pounds it is often the case that it sneaks back on again within a relatively short time.
So what is the secret to successful weight loss and then keeping it off? Read on and all will be revealed!
First off, throw out all your diet magazines, books and DVDs. They are merely a short term 'fix' and often a root cause of so called 'yoyo dieting' where people shed weight then put it on...lose weight again only to put it back on...and so on.
We need to break this cycle and start to undo the cause of the weight gain in the first place. Which is, drumroll please...
..Eating too much and moving too little!
There, I said it!
So it stands to reason that if we make lifestyle changes that enable us to take in fewer calories while raising the amount of movement (exercise) then we will lose the weight and keep it off.
I'm not talking about starvation diets or cutting out your favorite foods. These 'Hollywood' style diets do nothing for your long term health or fitness. I'm suggesting that you reduce your intake of high calorie junk food and increase your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables.
There's no need to EVER go hungry. In fact, the best way to get started is to reduce the amount of processed ready made meals and takeaways and to start preparing your own tasty, nutritious meals.
Of course, eating fewer calories is only half the battle. Increasing your daily exercise levels will literally melt away the fat you are storing.
Again, I'm not suggesting that you sign up to a gym or begin straining for a marathon run. Just make simple changes to your daily routine. This could include:
- Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
- walking to the shops rather than going by car
- Taking the dog for a walk
